Choose your type

Electric, gas, continuous flow and heat pump Dux

The right choice depends on your energy connection, your space, and how much hot water your household uses at once. Here is how the Dux types compare.

Dux electric hot water system

A Dux electric hot water system heats water in an insulated ProFlo tank using an electric element. It is the simplest and cheapest to install, works anywhere there is power, and suits homes on off peak tariffs or with solar PV. Sizes run from a 25L under sink unit up to 400L for large families, with a 10 year tank warranty on the larger models.

Dux gas hot water system

A Dux gas hot water system uses the Prodigy storage tank and natural gas to recover quickly after a big draw and keep running during a power outage. Gas storage suits homes with an existing gas connection and steady demand. The Prodigy is a 4 star unit that shares the footprint of older 3 star tanks, so it is an easy retrofit in 135L and 170L.

Dux continuous flow hot water system

A Dux continuous flow hot water system heats water only as you use it, so you never run out and you are not paying to keep a tank hot. The 26L Condensing unit is 6.7 star, wall mounted and compact, with a stainless steel secondary heat exchanger and electronic ignition. Available preset to 50 or 60 degrees, natural gas.

Dux heat pump hot water system

A Dux heat pump hot water system pulls warmth from the surrounding air to heat the tank, using roughly a third of the energy of a standard electric unit. Dux builds the Ecosmart heat pump range, and while we do not stock it in the online store yet, we can source, install and service it. A heat pump is often the model that unlocks the biggest rebate, so ask us if it suits your place.

A supply and install quote adds fitting, connection and removal of your old unit. In NSW a tempering valve is a legal requirement on most installs to limit water temperature at the tap, which can add a small parts and labour cost, and we will always tell you up front if your job needs one. If you are moving to an efficient heat pump or solar model, you may be eligible for a discount through the NSW Government hot water upgrade incentive, and you can compare running costs for each type on the Australian Government energy.gov.au hot water guide. Straight advice

Which Dux is right for your home?

Get the size and type right and a Dux will run quietly in the background for years. Get it wrong and you either run out of hot water or pay to heat water you never use.

Match the size to the household

As a rough guide, a couple is well served by a smaller ProFlo tank or the 26L continuous flow, while a busy family of four or more needs a 315L to 400L tank or the continuous flow. We size it to your real usage, not a guess.

Work with your energy source

Gas connected homes often suit a Prodigy gas storage tank or the 26L continuous flow, while all electric homes suit a ProFlo electric tank or a heat pump, especially with solar. We work with what you already have.

Consider your space

The 26L continuous flow unit is slim and wall mounted for tight spots, while ProFlo and Prodigy storage tanks need floor room. We check access before we recommend anything.

Repair or replace, honestly

If your current unit is young and the fault is minor, a repair may be the smart call. If it is old, leaking or rusted, replacement usually costs less over time. We tell you straight.

Not sure whether to stick with your old unit? An old, failing system quietly costs you in higher bills and cold showers, so it is worth a quick chat before it dies completely. We will give you a straight repair or replace answer for your place.

Answers, straight up

Dux hot water FAQs

Who makes Thermann hot water systems?

Thermann is the house brand of Reece, Australia's largest plumbing supplier, and has been sold here since 2012. The storage tanks are Australian made and the range is supported by Reece nationwide, which makes parts and service easy to get for the life of the unit.

Are Dux hot water systems good?

Yes, for most homes they are a solid, well priced choice. The electric tanks use Y class commercial grade enamel and a larger anode for a long service life, the Prodigy gas range is a reliable retrofit, and the 26L continuous flow is a 6.7 star condensing unit. As with any brand, the install matters as much as the unit, which is why we fit them to code.

How much does a Dux hot water system cost?

Supply prices in our store start around $480 for a compact 25L ProFlo electric unit and run to roughly $2,180 for a large 400L twin element tank, with gas storage around $1,288 to $1,488 and the 26L continuous flow at $1,650. A full supply and install price adds fitting, connection, any required valves and removal of the old unit, which we confirm on site before starting.

How long do Dux hot water systems last?

With normal use and occasional servicing, a Dux electric system typically lasts around 10 to 15 years, a gas system around 8 to 12 years, and a heat pump around 10 to 15 years. Dux backs the larger electric tanks with a 10 year cylinder warranty and the continuous flow with a 12 year heat exchanger warranty. Water quality, usage and maintenance all affect real world lifespan.

What size Dux hot water system do I need?

It depends on how many people use hot water and when. As a rough guide, a couple suits an 80L to 160L ProFlo tank or the 26L continuous flow, while a family of four or more suits a 250L to 400L tank or the continuous flow. We size it to your actual usage so you neither run out nor overpay.

Do I need a tempering valve with a Dux system?

In NSW a tempering valve is a legal requirement on most hot water installs. It limits the water temperature delivered to bathroom and hand basin outlets to help prevent scalding. If your job needs one, we tell you up front and include it in the quote rather than adding it as a surprise.

What are the signs my Dux needs repair or replacement?

Common warning signs are no hot water at all, water that runs out too quickly, rusty or discoloured water, leaks or pooling around the unit, rumbling or knocking noises, and hot water that will not hold a steady temperature. If you notice any of these, it is worth booking a check before it fails completely.

Can you replace my old Dux on the same day?

Often yes. We carry common Dux electric, gas and continuous flow sizes, so a straightforward like for like Dux hot water system replacement can frequently be done the same day. Call us with your model and situation and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

Tell us what your home needs, or what your old unit is doing. We will recommend the right Dux, give you a clear price, and get your hot water sorted.
